Practical insights, delivered.
I’ve spoken at over one-hundred conferences. Sharing practical knowledge is one of my key motivations. It’s also a large part of why I became a consultant in the first place — I love to help.
On-stage at performance.now() 2024, Amsterdam. Photo by Richard Theemling.From local meetups to international events, I’m an enthusiastic, engaging, and professional speaker. I cover web performance and site-speed optimisation from both technical and business perspectives.
Want to see where I’m speaking next? My international schedule is fairly full. Hopefully, I’ll be in a city near you soon.
Want me to speak at your event? I’ll probably say yes. I usually say yes. Read my preliminary questions, then drop me a line.
Am I any good? Check this keynote from 2019’s performance.now() conference. It’s a good representation of me and my style.
<iframe class="c-video__media" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/cXLOIIJ1UaE" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen loading="lazy"></iframe>I also deliver private, in-house talks directly to you and your colleagues. We can tailor the content to make the talk as focused and valuable as possible. Contact me to discuss the possibilities.
Looking for something more involved? Consider a workshop. My workshops are renowned.

I would absolutely love to speak at your conference! To make the process simpler and more transparent for everyone, please email me with as many of the answers below as possible.
Don’t worry if you can’t answer everything yet. This is a rough starting point, not a test, and there is no right or wrong answer.
- When and where is your conference? I once travelled 12,000 miles to give a talk; I’m not afraid of a commute.
- How many attendees do you expect? Rough figures or numbers from previous events are perfectly fine.
- Who is the audience? For example, are they mainly front-end developers or designers?
- Which other speakers have you approached? This helps me avoid covering the same ground as another speaker.
- How long should the talk be? If you don’t have a set duration, 45 minutes is usually ideal.
- Do you have any specific audiovisual (AV) limitations? I prefer a headset or lapel microphone and would definitely rather present from my own laptop.
- Do you cover speaker expenses? Flights, hotels, train journeys, etc.
- What kind of talk would you like? I usually give technical talks about CSS architecture or performance, but I’m open to other topics.
- Do you need a brand-new talk? Writing a talk takes a lot of time and effort, so forewarned is forearmed.
- When can I publicise your event? Should I keep the lineup quiet, or can I add your event to my speaking list immediately?
- How much does an attendee ticket cost? A rough figure is fine.
- Do you plan to pay speakers? I usually charge a fee to speak, but I’m open to discussing the amount for indie and non-profit events.
If I speak at your event, I will:
- help promote and publicise it;
- make myself available to attendees throughout the event;
- attend all social activities around the event;
- deliver a quality talk with practical relevance; and
- gladly allow you to record and distribute my talk.
I hold myself to a high standard.
