Why can't we make filling out ORCID mandatory at the same time as using the ORCID plugin?

Since the ORCID Profile plugin is updated independently, another plugin trying to change its behavior seems more risky to us.

We prefer not to go down this route as we think it would be better for the ORCID Profile plugin itself to implement this functionality. But I've seen now that PKP isn't planning anything along these lines.

Would you be interested in sending code implementing this, or funding the development of this functionality?

I would really like to be able to require ORCID iDs and use the ORCID Profile plugin as well. Looking through their issues, there was a request to do this in 2019, but there has been no progress since: pkp/orcidProfile#108

Given the time constraints and the high expectations of many editors, we'll reevaluate this point.
