The Media SDK support has a good number of quirks that might cause you to spend lots of time trying to debug mysterious conditions.

Windows

QSV does not initialize if run from a remote console (e.g. ssh).
Using it through rdp works slightly better.
Wine doesn't seem to work even in fallback mode.

Linux

You have to triplecheck the required dependencies (including kernel patches as today).
There isn't a software fallback.
